Wave piloting is an ancient technique used to navigate the open ocean by detecting subtle changes in swell patterns. I aim to use interdisciplinary techniques such as mobile EEG, behavioural testing, and interviews with traditional Marshallese canoe sailors to uncover the cognitive process behind this incredible skill. Most research in spatial cognition stems from western environments and lab-based settings. I believe that exploring traditional skills from unique environments can help deepen our understanding of how our brains build representations of the world around us. I have a MSc in Clinical Neuroscience from UCL Institute of Neurology and a BSc in Psychology from Brunel University.
